Visa for Jordan
 

Hi! I am looking for a bit of advice.
I am going to Jordan, Dubai and Beirut for 3 weeks. I heard that you need to mail your passport to the Jordanian Consulate in Washington, DC or take your chances for approval when you arrive at the airport in Amman. Is this normal? Safe?

Here is what I amplanning- Applying for a multiple entry visa for Jordan and using that as my base. My stop over is in Dubai so i will just get a simple visa there for the 2 days that i am going to stay. Leave Dubai for Amman, travel around Jordan then go straight to Beirut. From Beirut back to Amman.

Any one aware of any problems with this itinerary? Limitations?

Don't know where you live, but there is a Consulate office in NYC, across the street from the UN. That's where we obtained ours a few years back. Very convenient, to stop in and have this done.

But, as this a few years ago, I'd check the current Jordanian website to determine whether Visa can be obtained on arrival. Or call the NYC or Wash DC office for this info.

were you able to go between dubai jordan and lebanon without a problem??

We traveled on Royal Jordanian via Jordan (spent 2-3/days) then onto Egypt for 10/days; returning to Jordan for overnight and our homebound flight next morning. No problem - in/out.

We applied for our Visa at the NYC office/Jordanian consulate. Brought in the application, passports and payment (believe a money order); returned next morning to pick-up.

Worked/lived not too far from the area so it was easy. Did the same for the Egypt Visa (which could have been purchased on arrival CAI, but since both consulates were in close proximity, figured I'd "kill two birds with one trip" - why not?)

For my earlier (mid-90s) trips to Kenya and Tanzania (again with consulate offices in NYC) did the same. Nowadays, I purchase these Visas on arrival. Recently a friend obtained her Kenya Visa on the spot, for an additional $10/fee, so no need to return next day.

If you're in NYC, give it a try. Go to the office* (w/completed application, photos if necessary, passport and m/o payment) and see if they'll take application and process for you. Sometimes, the Embassy might not know how individual consulate/tourist offices handle their process.

*many of the consultates only accept applications in the morning, for p/u next morning.

Maybe I'm missing something - but we flew into Amman from Cairo last May and the guide that picked us up just got our visas while we waited there at the airport. Seemed like a very quick, painless transaction - no questions asked - only needed our passports.

I was in Jordan just over a year ago. Before my trip I emailed the Jordanian Embassy and they said there's no need to get your visa in advance, it can be issued at the airport or at the ferry port in Aqaba. I had no trouble getting it on the spot and I believe the cost was $20 US. There was no hassle at all so you are not taking a chance on being approved.

If you want confirmation call the Embassy.

I went to Amman in last Sep, and got my visa when I arrived. Then left to Isreal and back to Aqaba. No problem at both borders. So I suggest you forget about sending your passport to the Washington.

That's nonsense advice you got about Jordan. You can pick up your visa right when you get off the plane. You'll be directed to the foreigners line, pay whatever amount of money (got to change currency first which is available at airport too) and get your visa. No need to worry about that.

As for UAE and Lebanon, check with their embassies or your travel agent.

We just returned from Jordan and picked up our visas when we entered the airport. BE SURE TO GET LOCAL CURRENCY before getting in the visa line.

I returned 5 days ago back in the states. I receive the visa at the amman airport. It is very efficient and simple. I would not send in your documents to the consulate first.
