VERY LATE arrivial at JRO, Any suggestions for lodging and/or shuttle

2 weeks from this morning I am heading out. My arrival into JRO from Nairobi is scheduled to get there at 10:20 pm (and then I will need to get my visa). I will be staying for a few days with some friends in Arusha before my safari.

I don't want to make them drive all that way at night to get me and then have to drive back to Arusha. Even if they were willing, I would be worried that if my plane were delayed, it would be awfully late. Also at this time, I am not sure what, if any, transportation they will have. They leave this Sunday and still don't have a house to rent, but hopefully will by the time I get there. But that is another issue.

Anyway, I hope that one of you veterans can tell me if it would be possible to check in a hotel around JRO that late, and one that possibly has a shuttle or one that I can hire to drive me to Arusha early in the morning the next day.

I am on the road for work right now (delayed in the airport) and can't consult my Tanzania travel guides, so thought if anyone had suggestions, that would be great.

Looks like this is the last detail I need to finish, besides packing, weighing, repacking...

Thanks,
Kelly

I would recommend the Kia Lodge, almost within walking distance of the airport. Not sure about a ride the next day, but there probably is a shuttle of some kind.

Southern Sun has a shuttle and is right next to the airport. I am returning there in a few days.

I have emailed the KIA lodge, but haven't gotten a response yet. Thanks for the link, Duane.

I will look into the Southern Sun-Lynn, any idea how I can contact them?

Thanks,
Kelly

They are 500 meters from the airport.

Lynn, maybe I am missing something, but this looks like it is in Johannesburg. I will be flying into Kilimanjaro. Do they have a hotel up in Kilimanjaro?

lynn, i think she's talking about Kilimanjaro (JRO) and not Johannesburg where the Southern Sun is.

Yeah, I think she confused JRO and JHB. We arrived at JRO late and stayed at Kia Lodge. A Kia driver met us, and then it's only about a 5 minute drive away. We thought it was certainly nice enough, clean, good breakfast, lovely grounds, view of Mt. Kili.

The KIA is right outside the JRO airport, 5/min most. Try to arrange a room and transfer here for night of your arrival. Friends can then pick-up next morning.
