Vegetarians in SA

Hi, myself & my girlfriend are touring South Africa by car for 3 weeks next month on a fairly 'typical' route - Cape Town, Garden Route, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Swaziland, Kruger. We are both vegetarians and wonder how easy it is for non-meat (or fish) eaters to get by in South Africa. Any comments warmly welcomed!
Thanks.

Hi John

I'm not sure if this'll reach you in time, but here goes anyway.
You shouldn't have any problems eating properly, yet avoiding meat for the most part, especially if you stick to the beaten track. The route you're doing is pretty well developed, although you may find less opporunity if you travel through the Transkei on you trip between PE and Durbs. Fruit and veg are generally inexpensive and it's easy to get fresh stuff in the supermarkets, and often from vendours on the roadside too.

Hi Dave I'm leaving for Kenya & Tanzi to
go on a two safari, I'm worried about my
source of food. I was told if you eat
veggie or fruit you must peel and wash
with some type of chemical.
