Vaccinations/Meds needed for South Africa

We are going to Cape Town and South Africa (Royal Malewane) in January. What meds and vaccinations should we get? We want to take all that is necessary. We don't want to risk anything.

Your travel agent should be able to provide this information. Or check the CDC site www.cdc.gov and select SA. Note, however, that the CDC sometimes is overly cautious.

You don't need anything in particular for Cape Town, SA in general is a first-world country... but if visiting Kruger you will need malaria meds.

It's also a good idea for travelers anywhere to be current on inoculations they haven't had since childhood - tetanus, Hep A, Polio. Discuss all of this with your physician or a specialist in Tropical Medicine/Diseases (a Travel Clinic), with consideration of your personal health histories.
