Using calling cards from Turkey

I am traveling to Turkey in Oct. and I want to check in at home in the U.S. everyday by phone. What is the best way to do that? Can I buy a calling card here and use it there? I have heard that I can't get calling cards there that will work for calling the U.S. And it is VERY expensive if I buy one there. HELP!

Nikki - you can get calling cards - that is about the only way to use the pay phones over there. Lots of places (i.e. corner stores) sell phone cards for use in the pay phones. Make sure you know how to call from Turkey, i.e. coutnry codes, area codes, etc. since there is no operator to call once you are there.

The calling cards you buy are for a set amount and yes calling from Turkey home is expensive, so try to keep it to a minimum.

If you have any difficulty finding a calling card to buy head to the PTT (the post office), they sell cards and have phones either in their office (if it is a small town) or just outside to use the call card on.

I don't know about buying a calling card here and using it there.
