Unguja Lodge, Zanzibar

Has anyone stayed here lately? I've seen a couple of reports that sound good since I love snorkeling from the beach. We've also been looking at Pongwe beach. Can anyone compare these for us? Thanks so much for the help.

I haven't stayed at Unguja Lodge, but have been to Pongwe twice and would highly recommend it. The beach is beautiful, the food is excellent and the price, reasonable.

Thanks for the recommendation, Shaytay. Is there a big tidal effect at Pongwe (or can you basically swim all day)?

The tide goes out a bit, but there is still plenty of water to swim in. They also have an infinity pool overlooking the bay, which is nice.

The east coast of Zanzibar is tidal, so depending on the moon, tides come/go, where you can have lots of beach or none at all, but it's not all day.

At Pongwe, I don't think the beach ever gets entirely covered, unlike places like the Shooting Star.

Thanks for all the info. Pongwe is definitely on the short list. still checking out the Kendwa area and Ras Nungwi (although the Nungwi area seems pretty "resorty" and crowded).
