Tunis and Algiers

we are considering a cruise on Viking which stops in Tunis and Algiers and are wondering if it is safe to visit these cities. I assume the cruise company would not be booking stops if it weren't but want ask those Fodorites who may have visited recently.

Just back from two weeks in Algeria. We did the entire north coast, from the Tunisian to Moroccan borders. Will be posting TR soon. But in a word: yes we felt completely safe in Algiers and the small towns. Even in the once-notorious Casbah (a bit like Rio's favellas). I wouldn't 'rock the casbah' past dark, but daytime it is bustling and quite atmospheric. Enjoy your time in North Africa!
