Tsavo National Park (Kenya)

I'm wondering what people think of Tsavo National Park. How does it compare to other parks (e.g., Amboseli)? Which is better: Tsavo East or Tsavo West? How good would the animal viewing be (in Tsavo or Amboseli) in June/July/August? Thanks --

We just returned from a couple of days at Tsavo West, which was beautiful and some good animal viewing. Traveled with friends who'd been to many of the Kenyan parks, altho not Amboseli. Masai Mara is still best in Kenya for animal viewing but she was pleased with Tsavo. Tsavo West is where you want to go. We stayed at Kilaguni Lodge, which is an older lodge which could use some maintenance, but very charming. It is built overlooking a waterhole and animals come to drink all day and night. WE had 3 small children traveling with us and it was a great place for that. They loved looking at the animals from the lodge and a swimming pool made the hot midday hours pass quickly. Some good views of Kilimanjaro, which our husbands were climbing at the time. Don't know about the summer months there.

Have been to Tsavo West, Amboseli and Masai Mara. I could not tell you which one was better. We were there in October and Amboseli was much cooler and less humid. Animal viewing was great everywhere.
Stayed in Kilaguni Lodge (Tsavo) which has a splendid location but comfort is quite basic. In Amboseli stayed at Amboseli Serena Lodge which was superb. Also stayed in Masai Mara Sopa Lodge (Masai Mara Nat. Park) which was also great.

hi
during August the great migration is at
Masai-mara! it's abig mistake to travel
elsewhere...
Tsavo is a huge park - less "concentrated" but if u r looking for a more "wild" & less touristic - that's it. go as far as lake Jipe, Mzima springs (West) and to East's Mudanda Rock, Aruba Dam & Luggard rapids("falls"?!?) and u will enjoy it.
Ambosely is not anymore the "capital"
of lions-rhinos-cheetah as it used to b...
