Trip to Kenya - Embassy Moving Employees
 

Hi, As I'm sure you know the US Embassy in Kenya is moving staff to other countries in Africa. Does this make anyone wary of traveling to Kenya? We'll be in safari country but this action makes me a little nervous because we'll have young ones with us.

Post a link to that news story and I'll offer advice. This is the first I've heard that the US was moving embassy staff, and nothing I can find in news supports that.

Neither have I heard/read anything to this effect, but not unusual for Embassies to relocate staff for various reasons periodically. Or asking some staff to work from home for a short time.

Maybe they're sending some off to Iraq :)

The Travel Warning, first link has been repeated every 6-8/months since the Embassy bombings in '98 - all they seem to do is change the location of the most recent incident. That is the responsibility of your government - to which doesn't mention DO NOT TRAVEL, rather 'non-essential' travel and which areas to avoid, none of which are on the usual safari routes.

As to the 2nd link, yes... they might relocate some staff but doubtful those who truly live in Kenya with families, own homes and cars, have kids in school, etc.. For others as I mention above, likely some will just work from home and others might indeed be reassigned elsewhere for a few months. Gov't does a good job moving those who sign up for it, around as they see fit... such as if there was an actual war going on, which it isn't.

Neither of which link I'd concern myself. Am sure there are Embassy staff worldwide that are regularly moved or transferred periodically for whatever reason Uncle Sam wishes.

I know one Embassy individual who in 7/years has been with his family been reassigned three times within Africa, but always returns to Kenya for holiday, even now.
