hi dmnunk, i'm sure you and your wife will have a lovely honeymoon there. The tents are really amazing beautiful, and similar to shompole, in real they look even better than on their website (you know which site, something of sanctuary lodges or so). It's decorated in a rather 'classic' and 'stylish' way of luxury, almost a bit British colonial, with a lot of beige colors and dark wood. The dining room and the adjoining terrasse have a view on the part of the river where many hippo's relax, bath and sometimes mate...(funny sight because they kept sliding off eachother)Rooms until about 6 or 7 have a good chance of viewing hippo's from your tent (nice detail, a sort of small netted opening in the bathroom towards the river, so when you're showering you could have a small peep outside), but then again this may also imply more noise at night (hippo's make this loud funny noise). The more you go towards room 12, the less chance of viewing a hippo. We stayed in room 8, which was not badly located, but near quickly streaming water which also made quite a lot of noise (felt as if it was raining heavily all night long). But those are minor details. The food is by far excellent. Only thing I found a little surprising was the sharing of vehicles for the game drives. This does not prevent you from going on game drive on the times that suit you best, but to the extent these times coincide with others, you may share vehicles. Though this will depend on how your 'package' was defined by the operator. But i'm not sure most operators are aware that they are booking on a shared vehicle basis there. Overall, we enjoyed Olonana very much, with the staff being really very nice.

Your pics are beautiful - thanks for sharing! I really like your cats - and I would like to see the B&W baby in color just to compare . The one of the cheetah with her babies encircling her is gorgeous!

Just curious what led you to believe the game drives wouldn't be on a shared basis. Were you told otherwise by your operator? The majority of camps offer shared game drives unless you opt to pay for a private vehicle (sometimes you luck out anyway due to low occupancy). I know of very few camps where private vehicle use is standard and included in their base rate.

actually my kenyan operator did not specify, and when we went to shompole first, we were accorded our own driver.. so it's my thingee that i probably expected this last days to be in the sort of lodges that reserve a vehicle for you. In addition, our whole tanzanian part had been private.. Another couple who had also done Tanz & Kenya, booked via A&K, seemed equally surprised as the rest of their trip (I seem to remember) was also private...
