Wow Egypt is great destination, wishing you comfortable accommodation and nice trip i would like to give you some tips about visiting Egypt:
1) Don't forget your sun glasses and sunblock as sun is very hot in morning
2) bring 100% cotton cloth to observe sweat and protect your skin from hot sun
3) install Egypt uber taxi for easy transportation
4) Negotiate price of products at local market as they raise prices for tourists
5) Bring your camera

The illnesses haven't put much of a damper on the trip. You simply keep an eye on the bathrooms.

I believe the Merit can accomodate 20 passengers (10 cabins), but there were only 5 of us and 1, a British Travel Agency rep, only stayed over-night. A delightful woman.

As Dahabiyas go, I suppose the Merit is of medium size. She's 50m long with 7.5 m of beam. Draws about .8m of water. Two sails, of course. She travels with a tender/tug for times when winds are slack or insufficient. Our original tender broke down just south of Esna locks and the captain had to call a backup. So we sat, tied up to a date palm for a couple hours while the new tender caught up with us. A group of obnoxious children found us and pestered us for money and attention.

WE really enjoyed cruising on the Merit. She's a lovely boat with a great crew and fine accomodations.

Really enjoying your post. My daughter and I were in Egypt several years ago and loved it. Would love to see a few pictures.

idlechater, how did the rest of your trip go? I'm considering Egypt next year and would be curious to hear how your overall experience with that tour operator was.

The trip went fantastic from start to finish.

Memphis Tours was top shelf all the way. Covered everything that needed cover. We had great guides, superb drivers, the itinerary was everything we wanted. WE were in good hands all the way. Our next trip there will be Memphis all the way.

If I were to change anything it would be trans-atlantic carriers.

Thank you for replying idlechater. Both you and michelle_d seemed to like Memphis a lot. I’ve reached out to them to see what they can do. Not sure if it’ll be Egypt or Borneo next year, decisions decisions!

The way I'd see it, if I had to shoose between Borneo and standing inside one of the ancient wonders of the world, and that's just the first day, the choice would be simple. Plus it's really cheap to travel there. Borneo can wait.
