Trip report/blog - South Africa honeymoon

My husband and I wanted to go to different destinations for our 2 week honeymoon in November. He wanted to go on a safari and I wanted to visit European cities. We compromised by doing both. We started in Europe (winter time) and ended in South Africa (start of spring). Packing was a challenge but our adventure was a great way to start off our marriage!

Our itinerary was: Belgium, Amsterdam, and South Africa (Cape Town and Kruger National Park)

Here's my blog with photos, itinerary, and stories:

Thanks for reading! Feel free to post questions.

Wow Lindygirl! A wonderful combo of locations for your honeymoon. I enjoyed your photos and trip report.
I'm still trying to decide between Kruger in the hot summer or an Eastern cape reserve which would be less hot.

Thanks deladeb! We were in Kruger in the spring and it was so hot that we just stayed in our room during the day. I imagine it'll be hotter in the summer though it may not matter as much since I think year-round the game drives still take place at the same time of day though (5:30am and 4:30pm) when the temperature is really nice.

Enjoy your trip!

LG - If I may, a correction on where your safari camp was (Simbambili). It was not in Kruger, it was in the Sabi Sand reserve. Because folks (like me ) get confused when we hear Kruger. There is Kruger National Park and then there is the Greater Kruger Area. Kruger, to most, means Kruger National Park. Sambambili is in the Greater Kruger Area (Sabi Sand). The BIG difference (besides ownership) is that in KNP you may not drive off road to sightings. While, as you know, in Sabi Sand you can drive off road to get up close and personal . Apologies for my nit-picking

Tom, you're right. Our lodge (Simbambili) is 1 of the 10 lodges in the Thornybush collection of lodges. And Thornybush is a private reserve that's in the northern part of Sabi Sands. The reserve borders Kruger National Park and our guides were not allowed to cross into the park itself. I referred to the area as Kruger because it's more recognizable though it's not technically correct.

I'm from San Francisco (I live in the actual city) and it's like when someone says they live in San Francisco and I ask them where, expecting to hear a neighborhood inside San Francisco. Come to find out they live in San Mateo... it's not the same thing. But someone who's from Dusseldorf, Germany for example, will know where San Francisco is but not San Mateo. So in this case it's more useful to say San Francisco than San Mateo. That's what I was going after.

I'll update my blog because I want to be as accurate as possible - thanks for the correction. Unfortunately I can't update the post headline! I

Hi LG - yeah, I understand. I live in Fullerton CA and I typically tell people North Orange County. If they still seem interested, I then say Fullerton - next door to Anaheim. Everybody knows where Anaheim is (Disneyland).

This "Kruger thing" happens frequently here in questions and I usually have to get it clarified or I get confused (more so than usual .)
