Luxor Sleeper Train
i have made reservations via fax/email for the sleeper train departing Luxor. Does anyone have info about where in the station to buy the tickets, when the office is open and how easy it is?

www.seat61.com/Egypt
good info if you get a repsonse great buy at station
Egypt being Egypt in the past pay a bit more for an agent
paradisetravelegypt.com if memory serves
if you do not get a prompt response/confirm...
Good luck... insuremytrip.com monitor travel.state.gov
Sort of dodgy recent embassy attack of a minor nature
would not deter me from going unless things worsen
but I would always have insurance and a backup plan.

The last time I was in the Luxor train station (and it was some time ago) it was so small you won't have a problem finding the Sleeping Train office. At that time it was at the end of the row of windows (for all ticket sales) to the far left.
They have been remodeling train stations, so this likely has changed a bit, but my bet is that the station is still small enough that it should not be a big problem to find the office. Good luck. Have fun. Hope this system works for you.

Thanks for info & suggestions. I had contacred paradise travel and they quoted ticket cost + US$ 131 commission which seemed over the top to me. I will try and persuade the hotel to pick them up for me,the knowledge that there is a separate office is useful.

Prices based on double occ. are $60 USD per person - one way. If you need a single cabin, it will be more. If you hire someone to do the work to buy them for you, you need to figure to pay them for that service.
If you don't want to pay the service fees/commissions, you can wait and do it yourself and hope there is room. Space is probably not a big concern these days, but you should be flexible if you want to do it this way, to be sure.
Something else to know is IF you do it yourself, you need cash. Do not plan to use a credit card. If using a cc is part of your travel plan you will need to go through some agency that accepts cc and there will probably be a fee for that service as well.

My friend booked last week Sleeper train through Le Caire travel. www.lecairetravel.com with 120$ per double cabin + 10$ as service charge. It's better for you to book early

Thanks for help.
For the record I made reservations with sleeper trains initially via fax specifying sleeper train number, date, boarding and disembarking stations ,& giving passenger names.I received confirmation by email from [email protected]. I subsequently postponed my trip & cancelled the reservations. 6 months later I sent an email to [email protected] who not only made new reservations but also replied to my questions about ticket collections. I collected the tickets at Luxor station at approx. 6.30pm for travel 48hrs later, the separate ticket window is clearly marked at the far left of the bank of windows on the right as you enter the station. I presented my reservation email and was asked for passports and cash(I gave us$)A phone call was made and then tickets were issued for luxor to gisa and also for gisa to aswan, total cost $240 for 2 people.Hope this helps someone else.
