Travel guide with a tour?

Some of you recommend the use of Egypt Travel Guides. How useful are these if you are going with a tour?

Thanks for your reply.

Even if traveling with a guide, you should have some idea of the country you are visiting - history, culture, people, food, etc.

You might have time on your own, say to return to the Egyptian Museum and most guidebooks can direct you thru the museum floor-by-floor. Or if you want to return to the Bazaar, they provide information on where to fine certain items.

It is also a good reference in order to ask questions. While the guides are very good, they don't cover everything; you might have some particular interest and a guidebook give you a place to start making inquiries.

Also, if you keep a diary of your trip, a guidebook is a good reference as there is just so much information to remember, especially for Egypt with over 5,000 years of history.

We noticed that almost everyone on our trip had the Rough Guide book.
