Tours in Israel
Hi,all,
My partner and I want to go to Israel this coming May. People have been recommending tours once we are there. Have any of you travelers taken a tour that you would recommend?without huge numbers of people Thx. Evelyn |
Call Gil travel (800) 223-3855 and speak with Nili at ext 367. She arranged a trip for me with a private guide catered to our specific needs. We have already been to Israel 4 times and my sister has only been once. In additiion we have family and friends to see in many places. although it seemed very complicated to me, Nili was able to design a tour that included everything on our list.

Make arrangements through your agent or guide to rent a jeep/driver to see the Golan Heights. You'll go from fording forested streams and acres of orchards up to the most amazing vistas (you can see Jordan, Syria and Lebanon!) Breathtaking, stirring, historic, like all of Israel!

Thank you, fodorites.
I willl call Nili at Gil Travel and go to the Golan Heights. Thx. to you both. Evelyn |
Hi, again. Another suggestion would be to tour the City of David. This is definitely for the more adventurous since it ends by wading through the 2,700-year-old Hezekiah's Tunnel. Water in the tunnel varies from knee to thigh deep, it's pitch black (bring a flashlight!) and the walls, in places, get very close. A really exciting and unusual experience.

If you're looking for some restaurant recommendations, let me know. I have a few really memorable places I can tell you about, like the Dag Al HaDan fish restaurant in the Upper Galilee countryside. You eat under the trees that line the banks of the Dan River (often after spending the afternoon floating down the Dan on rafts.) It's heavenly.

Aknards,
We will be in Israel in May and I would love to have your restaurant reccos. |
In Jerusalem, try Anna Ticho's - Abraham Ticho St., off Ha Rav Kook St, near Zion Square. It's like a hidden oasis with gardens and a multi-level terrace, right in the middle of downtown west Jerusalem. We were there in early June and it was so beautiful eating outdoors on the terrace. The home is historic and still displays some of Anna Ticho's art collection (she was an artist.)
Also in Jerusalem, Darna Moroccan - 3 Yochanan Horkanos St. Jerusalem. We went there for lunch to celebrate our son's Bar Mitzvah. The menu is a bit pricey but well worth it! Authentic Moroccan dishes and decor/ambience, generous portions - a visual and culinary treat. If you get to Tiberias, you must go to Decks. This restaurant is built (surprise!) on a deck extending out over the Sea of Galilee, surrounded on three sides by water. We saw one of our most memorable sunsets there, while eating a fantastic meal. From the restaurant one can see Tiberias, the Sea of Galilee and the Golan Heights. A very beautiful and mellow dining experience. I can't remember the name of the place where we ate in Tel Aviv but it was also terrificc. If I come up with it, I'll let you know. Our trip was planned by the Alexander Muss Institute for Israeli Education (AMIIE). Our guide was FANTASTIC. His name was Uri. We could not have asked for a better planned or smoother executed trip. It was everything we hoped for. Enjoy! |
thanks, we'll probably try most of these
