Tour Companies in South Africa - Help!!

Hi guys!

I am thinking of going to South Africa for about two weeks and am trying to find some escorted tour companies who go there...

I have a few brochures already, but wanted to see if anyone recommends any companies for me...

I would appreciate any names, but not names of travel agents.

Thanks!
Ingrid

Took Tauck tour of South Africa in May 2001 and it was wonderful. Would do it again in a minute, especially as now they have added a trip on the Blue Train and the option of an extension to Botswana. Just may do it again if my friend decides she would like to go as well.

Is Tauck really expensive though?
is it more than $6,000 per person for two weeks?

Tauck is $4270 per person double occupancy plus air for 12 days/11 nights which does not include travel time. In other words, 12 days/11 nights in Africa, which ends up to be 2 weeks with travel time. In May 2001 I paid about $1800 per person from Philadelphia for the airfare, which included one more flight than is necessary now because of the trip on the Blue Train. So airfare may be even less now. That trip price included ALL expenses including tips (except those to the Tour Director) and a few meals (which I basically skipped as I didn't need them anyway, they feed you so much other times).

Wilderness Safaris does a wonderful job in S. Africa:
www.wilderness-safaris.co.za

You might also look at A & K:
www.abercrombiekent.com

Both are less than $6,000 per person!

Hi guys!

Thanks for your input. I did come across Wilderness Safaris, as well as some others. We are now trying to decide the best route for us.
I appreciate your help.

Go into www.2Afrika.com
They have 12- and 13-day South Africa tours, including airfare from the U.S., for MUCH less than that. How much luxury do you want? We went with them last year to Kenya and Cape Town and we were very happy with them. I would recommend them to anyone, and so would everyone in our tour group (which was only 5 people!--Can't beat that!).

Patricia:

Thanks for the reply. I am really not looking for super luxury. Just something really nice, but it seems that all these safari companies are way tooo expensive!!!

All we want is five-six days in Cape Town, three in Zululand and 6 on safari near Kruger - but the cheapest quote we have gotten is 14,000 US - way too much!!

I never spend more than $10,000 on any trip.

The problem with all the packaged tours is that they don't have a very strong schedule in Cape Town or in Zululand. They all skip the battlefields, etc.

We are getting discouraged, but I will check into the company you suggested.

Thanks,
Ingrid
