Tools for traveling responsibly

Let me start by saying that I have no affiliation with these companies and haven't tried their products. But I was doing a little research and came up with a possible solution to the generator problem. On another thread, I saw what looked really cool - the Tekeon Power all, a universal battery charger and power strip thingy.
Here's a link: http://www.tekkeon.com/site/products-mypowerall.php

So, I contacted them and they replied very promptly. I asked if their products are compatible with solar chargers, and apparently they are - or the MP3450 is. And, they provided a source:
http://tinyurl.com/2sayae. Here is what Chris said:
"MyPower All MP3450 is compatible with solar charging and our MP3300 unit is not. The best way to charge MyPower All is through the 3 pin port which requires 12 watts. You can charge through the DC in port, but then you would have to get a larger charger."

I hate to think what resources are being used to produce these but, maybe the end result is greener.
So, I hope this can help someone. Does anyone have any other ideas? besides staying home

in re reading my post, I realize that this is not a complete solution to having generators, but solar power could definitely be FAR MORE widely used. Expensive start up costs, it always is when you are one of the first to use a new technology, but, it will pay for itself sooner or later, and then you're good to go.

Regarding the possibilities for solar power technology in Africa.... one of my best friend's from college is currently managing a non-profit in Botswana that manufactures solar powered hearing aids. The organization is called GODISA. Their website is currently being worked on, but here is a site with the 411 on their innovative technology:

Liz, I use the MyPowerAll to recharge my camera batteries, portable hard drives and other devices while traveling. I have the older version (MP3400) and it is really a godsend when you have to be away from power sources. Mine won't recharge through solar, though, I'm sorry to say...
