Too over the top for Tanzania?

My husband and I will be going to Tanzania (Selou, Ruaha, Serengeti and last but not least Zanzibar) the second and third week of October. Can anyone tell me what the day and night time temperatures will be?
Also, I found this great cotton "safari jacket" at H&M. Just like the one in Travelsmith for $25.00. It was too good to pass up.
Here's the question:
Is it just too "Out of Africa" to wear a safari jacket? I really don't want to be the walking joke of the camps. What does one wear these days? Can you tell it's our first time going to Africa?
What is a stylish girl to do?
Please help.

As a side note to this post, have any other female fodorites noticed all the cool safari-style clothes in stores this spring/summer?

I've worn my Ex Officio safari jacket on 6 safaris and never gotten any adverse reactions to it. The pockets are really handy when traveling, especially if you're a photographer. Given that your jacket is made of cotton, it sounds practical and comfortable. Go for it!

Didi,

In:
Safari jackets at home or in Africa - cute, stylish and useful.

Out:
Buying useless clothes that you'll never wear again at home - we all do this.

Dig thru your closet first for nuetrals and comfy clothes - no rules!

Questionable safari attire:
When everyone in the jeep's wearing the exact same thing right down to the hats - A+K and other co. must send out a list of what to wear, where to buy it and possibly which day to wear it "Don't forget, tomorrow is green zipoff day" (: . It would always give me a smile to see all the body doubles together. I don't think though that anyone else ever noticed until I would point it out - I'm shallow. It did become a running joke throughout our trip, however.

crusinred -

The Gap had these great safari pants that rollup (w/tabs)... in all colors, including tan, green, brown... great for safari. Great price also at $39. Actually tried them on, but hated them. Anyway, being me, I wouldn't touch these till the price came down to $19.99 or less. However, they sold so quickly, the Gap had no time to reduce the price. You'll see them everywhere this summer (not on me!)

Safari-style comes and goes every few years. What's old, is new again! The best, in style and quality, had been Banana Republic when this was their specialty.

Thanks for all the info.
I guess I'll keep the jacket. My husband thinks it has style, whatever that means. I've trained him to be metrosexual!
Does anyone know about the temperature ?
