Hari, and Mohammed - this is awful. I hope that you and yours will be OK, and that you all manage to figure out a way out of these attacks. I don't know what these people want to achieve - bad publicity? Killing a few people? The fact that this is well planned and executed is very worrying.

Hari, Iīm gratified to read that you, and your family, friends and colleagues are unharmed.

I have spent many enjoyable afternoons in the Cafe Leopold and nights in the Taj, and its quite sad to read about recent events targeting these locations, among others. Its also particularly upsetting to realize that I likely would have been targetted had I been staying at the Taj or Oberoi.

Iīm in Mallorca, spending a couple of idyllic days before traveling to Andorra, and while I thought I would have last night had a relaxing evening, I spent too much time battling jet lag and watching CNN (notwithstanding the anchorīs supercilious line of questions).

Michael

Odd, I had saved a post (and made minor edits) and I seem to have cut-and-pasted it again -- sorry for the duplicate post.

Thanks all for your concerns. I'm really in Southern India, so far away from Mumbai at the moment.

Michael: That's exactly how I feel too - "it could easily have been any of us in either of those hotels" and this is how many people feel. As you know, places like this are a cocoon from everything India- including the heat, dust, noise and pollution. So, for the magnitude of this is shocking. It obviously is an attempt to shake up many areas of our Country - Economy/finance/Tourists/Businesspeople/ the Upper Class etc etc., It is pretty surreal as I mentioned before as I go to Mumbai atleast 4-5 times a year.

More bad news, I just got news from Mumbai that my friend Shabbir bhai is okay but two of his friends who were with him at the Oberoi have been killed. Earlier this morning when I saw the TV at home before leving to work the siege in Mumbai is still on going - this is horrific!

Hari and Mohammed - my heart goes out to all of the Indian people. Your nation and the city of Mumbai has faced evil incarnate, but the resilient spirit of the people of India will prevail.
