we will likely just want to have a nice dinner and hang out at the Cave Bar until we’re ready to retire for the evening
But don't skip the evening access to Petra - you need to check whether it will be available, it's not every evening.

Hi Takemewithu - our daughter has returned to North African countries a few times to live in non-touristy areas to practice her Arabic. But in her job (foreign affairs/immigration) she'll speak a lot more English and French. I've encouraged her to post on questions about women traveling on their own in Arab countries but so far no luck. She has certainly been in some interesting situations, and has helped others when things get a little dicey. Someday someone will help her.

Oldest son is about to start his masters in London. Youngest son is just finishing his first year at a Canadian university. He was telling us last night that several of his Chinese friends found yesterday's German exam very difficult. All these kids (not just ours) and their travels/languages - just amazing.

So you have made a good decision on transportation. Much less stressful. I hope the bagpipes are playing for you in Jerash. Your eyes and ears will disagree on where you are.

country, thank you for sharing. how time flies ! you described your boys as teen agers in your Jordan trip report and stayed behind to meet your daughter at the airport from a flight that was delayed.

our 2 week trip is coming together beautifully. i only need to book our overnight stay ( more like camping, really ) at wadi rum. all of the local tour operators are well reviewed at TA so it’s hard to make a decision. i cant find the camp that had the white, bubble-looking tents that looked like they came from the set of a futuristic sci-fi movie. i saw the picture from another travel forum which i cant remember now. i will just book on wadi rum bedouin camp, mohammad, the owner looks like a cool guy. i will book the overnight with half day of jeep tour then leave for petra by bus or taxi after breakfast and some sunrise watching and taking photos.

the hot air balloon ride looks very interesting. hubby and i might consider leaving WR a bit later to do this. has anyone here done this ? scary, not worth it, cool ....? appreciate hearing your experience with the ride.
