To Beige or Not to Beige?

My family and i are planning to visit Tanzania for 12 days over the Christmas break and so far we have been hearing from everyone to only wear beige and green or grey not only on game drives (which we understand reasons for) but ALSO at the resorts/camps. Is this accurate or necessary?

You really won't be expected to dress any different for meals in camp than you do for drives. Since you are usually limited to the amount of luggage you will take with you (although if you aren't taking little planes between camps you may be carrying more) and the camps will do your laundry for you, you'll be quite comfy this way. I did pack a long red wrap around skirt and a black skinny t-shirt to wear for dinner the night of our anniversary.

It will depend on the camps you're staying at but on the trips I've taken this year to Kenya, Botswana and South Africa the camps have been open, not fenced and wild animals have often come right in close to the public areas. Sitting on a tent verandah, walking on raised walkways between tent and dining room or even at the bar area - we've seen animals up close. Hence wearing muted colours that won't jar their senses makes sense in camp too.
