Now you've got a porter and a pruner for your next safari.

Thembi: I think your id as an Ayres Eagle is a good one, the African Hawk Eagle looks almost the same but is 10-15 cm larger so it could well be a Hawk Eagle. In my Newman's guide it shows an Ayres with an orange(ish) colored eye in one of the morphs and the barring on the tail seems to be a little more visible on the Ayres than the Hawk Eagle so I would tend to think that Ayers is the correct i.d. (that of course assumes the illustrator did a good job with is not always the case but I have found that this guide tends to be good with the accuracy). It's definitely one of those two species and I'd go with Ayres based on my guide.

Glad to hear of the book deal, I'm going to preorder of course!

Thanks Pred - we are chuffed that we might have got it right.

A porter, a pruner AND a book deal - does it get any better than this?

I think it is a Hawk Eagle as it has white unspotted thighs as opposed to the Ayers that has spots on its white thighs.
Nice shots!
Regards,
Eric

Hi Eric - thanks for the ID - we double checked in our SASOL and concur. The distribution map also would indicate the African Hawk Eagle. We have changed the title on that pic now accordingly.

Cheers
Thembi
