Recent Info on Camps & Wildlife Viewing in Botswana & Vic Falls

We're looking at a customized package from Classic Africa which has us booked into Xigera, Chitabe Trails and Duma Tau. Any recent experiences with these camps would be appreciated. We will be there June 28 thru July 6. Any comments regarding the quality of wildlife viewing that time of year would be great as well - I know it's wildlife and they don't perform on schedule so to speak Finally, any info on Sussi & Chuma Lodge at Vic Falls would also be great. Thanks in advance.

There is a great resource for what wildlife to expect to see on a monthly basis in various camps -- and I've never seen it mentioned in these threads. If you go to ultimateafrica.com and click on to "Weekly Safari Updates," you will find weekly and monthly reports from various camps going back 6 years. Unfortunately, there's no search function for particular camps, so it takes a lot of time to read through all the posts. But it's fun reading.

You have a good combination of camps with

Chitable Trails in Okavango Delta providing land activities, with both day and nite game drives, then

Xigera, in Okavango and Moremi area, with both land & water activities, but not sure whether they've gotten approval for nite games drives yet,

Duma Tau, in Linyatti with both land & water activities, and both day & night game drives.

All are Wilderness Safari properties.
The time of year you are traveling is good for animal viewing, but as you stated there are never any guarantees exactly what you might see, when, where and if.

As to the Sussi & Chuma Lodge in Livingston, Zambia (a Star of Africa property) - this is a relatively new upscale lodge with accommodations built into the trees. I have noticed that many tour operators are now using this property, so it's possible they are offering special prices as "a new kid on the block"

Whether you selected these camps or Classic Africa (a very reputable company with competitive pricing) did, you have a good itinerary.

Enjoy your trip and do post a trip report when you return.

Thank you both for your replies. With every additional piece of information coming our way, we are getting more excited. Finalized our airline tickets today; hope to finalize our safari plans next week.

Thanks dlm for your suggestion of checking out Weekly Safari Updates. What great reading. It is great for a first-timer like myself to read what is happening around the camps prior to our getting there the end of March. Fascinating reading for sure.
