marija,

Kanha is close to jabalpur, which is connected via flights from indian metro cities, kanha is 208 km from jabalpur and when we went in feb 2006 it took u around 4 hrs,

also kanha is a much better park in terms of tiger population than bandhavgarh,

Sonali / Hari,

I would like to visit Bandhavgarh in February during a week-long trip to India. Do you know if there are flights to Jabalpur from Mumbai? I could not find any connections between these two cities online.

Thanks

Marija,

I visited Kanha and Bandhavgarh in Nov 2004. To get there, I took a train from Bombay to Jalabpur and then rented a car to Kanha and then Bandhavgarh. Yes, the roads are terrible. Here's my 2c on Indian parks:

The two parks in North India that are fairly well managed are Corbett and Kanha. Granted Bandhavgarh has the highest density of tigers but is poorly managed and grossly underfunded. There is a major highway that runs thru the park (silly but true) and the park is almost surrounded by villages so human/animal conflict is common. Bandhavgarh has the fort that Kanha does not but is very small. Kanha is about 1000 square km. Madhya Pradesh (the state in which Kanha and Bandhavgarh are located) is the largest and used to have lowest population density. All the other parks have a problem of illegal logging by folks with connections to the pols. That said, MPTDC has probably the only lodge inside Kanha which is great. Their website is http://www.mptourism.com/. Good luck.

This is what ccafrica says on their website about getting to Bandhavgarh:

From Mumbai to Mahua Kothi
Fly to Bhopal (Indian Airlines/Jet Airways); connecting flight from Bhopal to Jabalpur (Deccan Airways); and the drive from Jabalpur to the Lodge is approximately 4 hours - 190 km

bearable--
thanks for the info. Unfortunately, we've already paid our deposit for Bandhavgarh.

Marija,

I would fly from Delhi to Jabalpur, instead of hopping thru Mumbai and Bhopal. I think Air Deccan has services that do that route. As i said in the other thread, CCA does provide the best possible transfers with good drivers ..... so, you will be in good hands to do the 4 hr trip. Enjoy!
