The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo
"The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo is a shocking exposé of a decade-old epidemic of kidnapping, rape and torture of women and girls in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Often carried out with impunity by gangs of armed militias, these atrocities leave survivors traumatized and isolated..."

"This is the story of one filmmaker's crusade to break the silence surrounding this shocking reality, armed with a firsthand connection with the women and men she meets. Winner of a Special Jury Prize (Documentary) at this year's Sundance Film Festival, The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo premieres Tuesday, April 8 at 10pm ET/PT."

Wow...what an informative, powerful documentary. Did anyone else get a chance to watch it?

Most upsetting.

And, to listen to the rapists try to justify what they did - makes them strong, helps the magic potions, some would kill a rapist if they saw it done to their mother, wife or daughter while others thought it was "for the Congo" ... disgusting!

I'll look out for the programme airing in the UK.

I heard an interview about this on the radio this morning.

Rape in the Congo and the Genocide in Darfur are tied as for top place in demonstrating Mans' inhumanity to Man. While there are human rights violations throughout the world, none seem quite the scope and feriocity of those in Africa. Many you physicians travel to Africa to help out, all return dishartened. This does place a lot of the banter on this forum into perspective, doesn't it?

safarichuck Apr 10th, 2008 11:37 AM

should read "tied for top place" and "young physicians"
