How’s that for drumming up attention for SafariTalk!
Lynn, I could not bring myself to type out my entire thought but your Hard Core post caught me off guard and distracted me for a moment. Easily done I’m afraid… What is the scoop with SafariTalk as far as the Picture Gallery and membership? I recall Matt bringing it up a long time ago and have kept the site in the back of my mind. When I first looked at the site I believe the gallery link was open for the public? I see now the link does not open unless one is a member, but I do see how nice the report layouts can be -– a great feature. Right now all my PICS and on going stories are on a private BLOG but I would like to support the SafariTalk site with wildlife PICS but not so much a report. Thoughts? Asante sana, Den |
This is a great tease of a post!
For anyone who has not yet tried out safaritalk dot net, here is an interesting feature of the site. No dirty words allowed over there and I learned that the hard way. I typed the word "hardcore" in the context of "hardcore naturalists and conservationists." When I previewed my entry, up pops "teddybear naturalists." Where did that come from? I never typed teddybear! A little experimenting confirmed it was the filter. All I had to do was put a space between hard and core and the teddy bear disappeared. I also discovered the words pumpkin and gumboots. But if you want to know what bad words turn into pumpkin and gumboots, you'll have to try for yourself at safaritalk.net I'm sorry, I've stooped down to the level of GoDaddy and their Super Bowl ads. Now for the photo gallery. I am in the process of doing that right now. You could do mostly pics and a few words--whatever format you wish. After establishing the gallery, you transfer the pics into the posts. How about a report of several dozen pics and just two words: pumpkin and gumshoe, or do some variations like pumpkiner or motherpumpkiner. |
TiiiiHiii, good teaser payback!
I thought this was going to be easy to share some of my wildlife snaps and have them perform a small function by sending folks to SafariTalk as well. But now I’ll be typing all day playing with the filter just to entertain myself as my vocabulary tends to have an extra dash of salt. I wonder if a Topi Horn Smackdown turns into Cauliflower Ears… :S- The most censored tool I have ever come across online is Google’s search engine. I wonder who the folks are that come up with the words that get programmed into the filter? It must be a difficult job although I bet it is hilarious at times; the stuffed animal words could be a bit dicey as there is a big difference between a plushbear and a plushiebear! Maybe they use retired pornographers to keep up with it all -- like network security systems are designed by retired hackers! Back to the file sharing, I liked Pbase and SmugMug and a few other sites but I realized I just don’t fit in there as I am not a photography purist and my snaps and stories are not all about wildlife. I tend to enhance my snaps with comments and such using them as part of my story telling and most of the folks I met on my trip are still part of my life so I couldn't really describe much without discussing them and besides they engage and none of us are very politically correct (kind of tough when dealing with really horrible problems at times) so I just decided to go the private route. When I described some of the experiences I had the first part of my trip I could always feel a little Binya dancing on my shoulder and I just don’t have the intellectual capacity, patience, or desire to banter or defend my true thoughts with the masses anymore! Thanks for your thoughts Lynn; I’m off to look at your report and PICS on SafariTalk and see how many vegetables and <s>furries</s> furry toys the filter has in its database! Den |

You know the swear word and porno filters were a must for the amount of spam entries that used to occur. However tighter security means less instances of teddy bears appearing:-) Last year Safaritalk raised 10,000 US dollars for grass roots projects in Africa and on my upcoming trip in March I will be staying with Louise Joubert, Paul Hart, Ian Merrifield and more to see how some of that money worked. (As well as making some personal donations) I also will be meeting with Johnny Rodrigues from the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force who will be driving down (hopefully) from Harare to meet up when I am in the Limpopo province. I am wondering whether I shall even return to Europe... Matt |

Hongera! You’ve raised a goodly sum indeed! Yes, on or offline; Bugs and Porn will always rule! All kinds. Thanks again Matt! Lynn: Your SafariTalk report layout is lovely; no way was I going to comment there and mess it up! The wild dog pups are so adorable and your description of the eager pack-mates waiting for the pups to emerge is so heartwarming! Dogs sure know how to set the example – we should emulate their systems! Probably a good thing you resisted the urge to pounce and lick but it must have been very difficult! All your snaps are wonderful but I thought I remember seeing one where there was a pup that was staring right at you and seemed to be connecting with you! Did I dream that snap up because now I do not see it? I loved it even if it was only in my mind -- it doesn’t take much to make me happy! The Leopard snaps are incredible!!! That PINK tongue! All so clear -- what a beautiful animal! ((*)) Best Snap = “Beauty and the Warthog!" <b>Lynn’s Challenge:</b> I kept trying to figure out what word you could possibly use that would be naughty enough to turn into gumboots without any luck. Later, I came across this article relaying the findings of a very important study and thought for sure this must be it! Perhaps referring folks to this study as another training option for preparing and getting into shape for a gorilla trek caused you to type a possible safaritalk naughty word! Feel free to add comments to wherever any of my reports may appear. A dancing Binya? That's a new one to me. I am honored you recall a specific photo. You are right that it had been up, but today I pumpkinin' deleted it by accident. I was planning on restoring it this evening. Glad you got a kick out of the warthog picture. Stiletto heels are rarely part of my vocabulary and are absent from my shoe rack. I do have a nice pair of snowshoes, though, and they have been given a workout this winter. I'll have to check out that link. Hint on gumshoe. Begins with a P and the longer version of the word ends in ogrophy. I didn't find any other filtered words besides, pumpkin, teddy bear, and gumshoe. I'll just have to put forth more effort in my dirty typing. |
