Does anyone know of a good site to see the migration route on a month by month basis. I found one a while back that was very good at showing where they were "real time", but I can't remember where it was. I have tried googling, but have not had any luck with finding a good spot. We will be at Klein's Camp at the end of August. I don't think they will have made it that far by that time, but I wanted to double check.

Thanks

Don't know of a website tracking migration...but, End August will be prime time in the Masai Mara. I was there 2001 and 2002 end August/thereabouts!

There are no "real-time" tracking websites, but there are 3 websites that more or less describe the movements of the herds about once a month.

These are not the work of scientists; it is based on reports from guides in the bush and at times the information is conflicting!

For migration maps and links to the three reporting websites:

At the end of August you have virtually no chance to see the migration at Kleins. The herds should be in the Mara Triangle and points west and northwest of the triangle.

Here are the two sites I know of that have blogs that report on the migration location:

http://www.wildwatch.com/great_migration
and
http://www.atta.co.uk/nomad/index.html

They seem to be updated every couple of weeks.

Thanks for all of the info everyone. Wildwatch was the one I was thinking about. Thanks Chris. We will be with CC Africa: Serengeti Under Canvas from Aug. 25 thru Aug. 29. From the latest update on this site, it appears that they move around...but not sure if they could go to where the migration will be at that point. No matter what, I can't wait to get to Africa!!!!!

ndonna, here's a site I came across last night whilst looking for info about wildebeest. It has diagrams:

Sorry, it looks like the link doesn't work! It takes you to a safari company home page. But just google "wildebeest migration" and it's the first entry, "migration made simple".

Carolines, please do not put much faith in the link you just posted. It is rather off mark in terms of the wildebeest movements!

...it does remind people the migration varies month by month, year by year. Sorry, I'll not post again, was just trying to help.
