Tetuán Morocco

Has anyone spent time in Tetuán? Is it like
Tanger, i.e. many aggresive hawkers? Recommend any middle level hotel? Thanks Greg

Tetuan is a very pretty city; the medina is a nightmare of hawkers and 'guides'. Ask at either your hotel or at the tourist office for an 'official guide'. They are licensed by the government and will guide you throughout the city, unmolested. They are a wealth of information (they have to past tests to be guides) and will give you a full tour. Yes, they will take you to a rug shop or a souvenir shop, but the pressure isn't there (the inference by many hawkers is 'don't buy and we'll leave you alone in the medina').
Can't help you with a hotel, as we were there on a day trip only (we stayed in Chefchouan).

Thanks Elvira--I may give it a
try from Ceuta. I survived Tanger and
liked it (once I left); that is, it's
work, but you feel like you've accomplished something afterwards, for some strange reason. Gp
