TelAviv to Jerusalem day trip - TRANSPORTATION??
 

Plan of going to Old City for a day from Tel Aviv. Taxi?? What should it cost (US$)? Recommendations?? Thank You, ZSWP

I would take the bus. There is a regular and frequent commmuter bus from Tel Aviv (central bus station but also from the train station in northern Tel Aviv, I believe) to Jerusalem. It takes less than an hour, and is inexpensive. But it won't take you into the old city. You'll have to ask at the central bus station in Jerusalem which bus to take to Jaffa Gate, which is one of the entrances to the Old city.

I should have noted that the only way that I WOULD NOT TRAVEL IS THE PUBLIC BUS!!!

What I was looking was some INSIDE recommendation like asking a taxi driver to take us "off the meter", or something like this. Thx ZSWP

It is all a matter of cost. Why not the bus? Another option is the new train service to Jerusalem. The route is beautiful.
Upon arriving in Jerusalem, you could negogiate with a taxi driver a full day deal. I have no idea what the charge will be. In any case I am pretty sure that the Jerusalem drivers will be more knowledgeable than a Tel Aviv taxi driver. You will have to prepare your home work, know what you want to see and instruct the driver.
But whether you decide to take a taxi from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, use only a taxi from an official taxi station company, don't just catch one on the street. If you are staying in a hotel in Tel Aviv, they will gladly help you find a reliable driver and also advise you of the price.

I also don't really see a problem taking a commuter bus to Jerusalem. It takes you directly non-stop there. Safer than taking a bus inside the city.

A "special" taxi to Jerusalem is gonna be expensive. There may be commuter taxis available, called "Sheroot"... I don't know if this still exists.
