Teenagers on Kilimanjaro Trekking

We are planning a trip to Tanzania, that will include Kilimanjaro Trekking. I am interested to know if altitude affects teenagers differently than adults ?
Can anybody share the experience trekking kili with teenagers ?
Thanks a lot ..

I am a member of the International Society of Mountain Medicine and I have quite a bit of experience with kids (10 and older) on Kilimanjaro.

Here is a link to read: http://www.ismmed.org/ISMM_Children_at_Altitude.htm

To summarise: Kids older than 8 are NOT affected by altitude any more/less than adults. The biggest problem is that kids of 7 and younger are unable to describe/recognize the symptoms of AMS accurately.

Teenagers will be just fine. Be aware that kids find the freezing midnight ascends via Stella Point and Gilmans quite hard (mentally and physically). They seem to do better on the Western Breach approach thanks to the daytime ascend and more interesting scenery.
