Tanzania or South Africa in December

I am planning my first trip to Africa this December and am looking for expert advice. We are hoping to leave December 20th, although we haven't booked tickets yet and cannot decide whether to do a safari in Tanzania (potentially with a few days in Zanzibar) or if we should go to South Africa. We are thinking anywhere from 10-15 days...depends on work and ticket availability!

I would love to hear your experiences regarding this time of year and what would be best.

As a first timer I would suggest South Africa is the better option as there is far more variety to see and do. South Africa has fantastic beauty backed up by great game reserves. Tanzania really has nothing other than the top wildlife area. Apart from the Ngorongoro crater we saw no great scenery in Tanzania. It is also very 3rd world compared to S.A.
I would suggest that you split your time equally between the Cape and Mpumalanga/Kruger Park areas, flying between the two. The Cape is certainly one of the most beautiful areas in the world.
