Tangier for 3 days from Spain

We're in the early stages of planning a trip for August and are thinking of visiting Tangier for 3 days from the ferry from Spain.

Is there enough to keep us occupied in the city for 3 days or shall we plan a day trip from the city? If so, where?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

My recommendation - skip Tangier altogether. Go to Fez, Rabat and Marrakech. Tangier is a typical port city.

I'm afraid I must agree that Tangier is not the most attractive city. I would also recommend you choose a different destination. However if you do decide to stay, you might consider a day trip to Chefchaouen (several different spellings exist).

For 3 days it's not worth it to go to Fes and Marrakech.

I definitely go to Chefchaouen and if you get tired of it (which I doubt) head back and use the rest of the time in Tangier.

Second option, go to Meknes/Vouliblis.

Chefchaouen has piqued my interest. I Google mapped it, and am still wondering how one might get there from Tanger? How far do you reckon it is from Tangier?

Thanks again!

I answered my own question: there appears to be a 3-hour bus from Tangier, in case anyone reading this was wondering.

A search will tell you quite easily how to get there from Tangier as it's a common route and commonly asked.

Once you arrive at the port in Tangier, if you walk towards the town - once you pass the city gate, on your right hand-side on the corner you will see the CTM office. There are 2 buses that head for Chaouen - one of them is 12:15pm - I believe the other one is around 3:00pm.

It cost 40DH in Oct 07 plus 5 DH for each piece of luggage which you must "check-in" with the appropriate tags

It will drop off you off at the "bus station" in Chaouen which is not too far from the medina, it is walking distance but it's uphill, with luggage and the hot sun, taking taxi is (2mins) is probably the best way.
