Swakopmund-Namibia

My parents will fly to Namibia next week, spending two weeks in Swakopmund. What kind of day trips should they take? Also, any other advice would be greatly appreciated. They'll be staying a couple of days in Windhoek, too.

hi there,
day trips arent that easy, for the distances are long in Namibia. But from Swakop You can to a tour to the Cape Cross where You find about 100,000 seals living. You can go easily to Walfish Bay where the flamingos are. You can visit the crates of the moon, a place that looks like its name. Nearby are the very seldom found "Welwitchia" to see, a kind of plant that is only growing in that part of the world. The most interesting thing in Namibia (Etoscha and Fishriver Canyon) You cant do in a day trip. The most spectacular place, the Soussouvlei I'm not shure (has been 5 years ago). But this is worth to do anyway, even if it takes 2 days.
have fun

Take a flight out over the desert to Soussouvlei, even if you travel there by land. The aerial view gives a good overall idea of the terrain. Swakopmund is very cool at any time of the year, so take some warm clothes. P

Agree with recommendations for Sossusvlei.

Also there was a place with thousands of flamingoes, Sandwich Harbour or something??? which we saw from our little cessna when we flew from Sossusvlei to Damaraland which was amazing. Seals were too.
