Sunrise at Sossusvlei Namibia?

Hello! According to the research I've done, you can only make it to the dune fields for sunrise if you stay at Sesriem campsite or Kulala Lodge? Is that correct? And has anyone stayed at Little Kulala, Kulala Lodge, or Kulala Dune Camp? Which of these three is best? Thank you!

I believe more than one of the Wilderness Safari Lodges are within park boundaries and therefore can get you to the dunes for sunrise but as we didn't stay in any of them I can't say for sure.

I'd ask your local travel agent (Africa specialist) to contact the individual lodges in the area and see what their responses are.

I have visited Kulala Lodge but only in the evening for a drink so didn't see much of it. However, the public areas have a very friendly atmosphere and the bar is particularly nice with a cosy fireplace nearby. Each room apparently has a rooftop where you can sleep and count the stars. I liked the feel of the lodge so would recommend it.

Ths other places where you can stay are Sossussvlei Lodge or Wolwedans Dunes Lodge. I stayed at Sossussvlei Wilderness Lodge which really is too far for the dunes but has spectacular mountain scenery which was even more attractive after the rains when the green of grass enhanced the scenery to new dimensions.

Wolwedans is on the dunes of the Namib desert but not very close to Sossusvlei/ Sesriem. It's about 60 miles I think and takes a couple of hours to drive.

Certainly not suitable place to stay if you want to see sunrise from the top of the tall dunes at Sossusvlei.

That said, it IS gorgeous and we're booked to renew our wedding vows there in June 2004.

I am not recommending the place we stayed when we went to Sossusvlei just because we didn't like it that much. It's the Movenpick place right outside the entrance to the park and accommodation is fine, service and dining though are poor and the size of the place means a lack of intimacy which one can find in the smaller lodges.
