Stop over Israel
 

I have a daughter working in Israel and wish to stop over and look around on the way to holiday in Italy. We would likely be flying in around 16th April, 2017. This is Easter. Will this be an issue. If it is, advice on what we should de. We hope to have 4-5 nights.

Easter is not a concern and will not affect your travel - what you need to be concerned with is that April 16 is the eve of the last day of Passover. This is high season and you would need to make hotel reservations soon in order to make sure that you will find what you want.

Where in Israel is your daughter working? Where are you hoping to go from the airport?

Also keep in mind that the 17th is a holiday and there will be no public transportation (buses or trains) from late afternoon on the 16th till after sundown on the 17th.

Thank you for your reply Oreet.Our daughter is at Tiberius, just arrived so does not know much about Israel at this stage. She will join us. From what I have read it is good to get out of Tel Aviv. Perhaps head to Jerusalem. we would like to do the main sites, Dead Sea, Sea of Galilee. Any suggestions for 5 nights would be appreciated. At this stage we are booking air tickets soon. Apart from the dates you mentioned would accommodation be easy to find?

Passover is a very popular time for Israelis to travel and accommodation could be harder to find and more expensive.

After sundown on April 17 the Passover holiday is over. If you could delay your trip a few days, that would be advantageous. Otherwise, book reservations in advance for the nights you will be in Israel. The more nights you spend here, the easier it will be to see what you want. The Sea of Galilee is next to the city of Tiberius.

I cannot understand this. We wish to fly out of Tel Aviv to Venice. With Israeli Airways the one way cost is $730 dollars but if I book a return it is half the one way price. The return allows you to have a cheaper cost structure. So are there any issues booking a return at half the cost and only using the one way component?

I don't know that itinerary specifically -- but it is very common for a round trip ticket to be cheaper than a one way.

As long as you don't do it repeatedly, yes, you can just fly one way and throw away the return ticket. Do not tell the airline you won't be using the second flight -- or they will cancel your booking and you'll have to pay the higher fares.

it is with the airline El Al. Yes it does allow to say fly to venice and return via rome to tel aviv. Either way the return ticket is half the one way ticket. Thanks for all the comments.
