Sad stuff.

How very sad. We just got back from a trip to South Africa with a 2 day stay at Victoria Falls. We stayed on the Zambian side, but did go to the Zimbabwe side.In that very short time you could see how desperate the people looked. I found it very sad while there, and feel even worse for them after reading this article.

The entire country is a basket case. The other articles on the site also most interesting. Mugabe as got to go - or just die.

Moi is gone from Kenya, thankfully - it's now Mugabe's turn to take the money he's stolen from Zimbabwe and "be gone" - the two of them would be in good company of each other.

When we were in Selous, Tanzania last year, we met a young woman who was born and raised (third generation) in Zim. She was in Selous looking for work because the family tobacco farm had been taken over by the Mugabe government. While many tourist places in Zim try to paint the picture that government action is not affecting tourists or tourism, she told us something quite different. Anyway, Sandi, did you read the book "Nomad, Journeys from Samburu" by Mary Anne Fitzgerald? She was jailed a couple of times while a correspondent for London's Sunday Times, Financial Times and The Independent. Moi did not like some of her articles and she paid a heavy price for them. If you can get your hands on a copy of the book, I think you would really appreciate what she wrote not only about Moi, but government pay-offs in general, the judicial system, the destruction of Central Bank documents ... the list goes on and on. Quite enlightening, I'll you.

Excuse the garble on the last sentence. Meant to type, "Quite enlightening, I tell you." Sorry!!!

Sandi: If you can't find a copy, let me know and I can send you the one I have. It is not what I would call an easy read, but brutally honest and insightful into the Kenyan government under Moi. Let me know.
