South African SIM card
Hi everyone! I'll be flying to Cape Town, South Africa in September for a vacation and would like to get a SIM card to use in an old Motorola Razr phone. Does anyone know of they're available at the airport? I'm American if it makes any difference. Thanks!

Yes, you can get one at the airport from any of the cell phone companies. They cost about $20 initially, or at least that was the price in 2012, and come with a certain number of minutes. You can buy more minutes at phone stores throughout the country.
Have a good time! Celia |
Thanks for the information!

I forgot to say that your phone needs to be quad band, and be unlocked.

We got sim cards for our iphones at the Cape Town airport Vodafone. Ditto on what Celia said - you must unlock your phone before leaving. Also check with your cell provider to see if you have to change any settings before leaving the US.

Hmm ok. It's just an old phone not attached to any provider or contract. I suspect it belonged to somebody in my family as I found it while cleaning out closets. Not sure who I would call to unlock it.

I don't know this for certain, but I think you can find instructions on the internet for unlocking many kinds of phones. Good luck!

Thanks, Celia.
