South African Airways

2 people to Joburg from JFK in October via SAA evening flight. Is this usually a full flight? How is the leg room? Any suggestions for seat selection for such a long flight. I will take any hints on getting an upgrade if possible.
Thanks
Larry

In my experience, flights to SA are ALWAYS full. Leg room is about the same as any overseas flight. The best seats, I think, are up in the "bubble" of the 747, just because there are fewer people. Meal service doesn't take as long, and you don't get such a "cattle car" feeling, despite the fact that you have no more room than the people down below.

SAA on-board service and amenities are great. You get South African wine!

Thanks for your reply. Are there coach seats in the bubble?

(I didn't write the previous reply, despite my name at the top of it.)

Yes, there are coach seats in the bubble, about 10 rows, I think, divided 3 and 3.
