South Africa-Plug Adapter
I am a bit confused. We are days away from leaving for SA, and the only thing we have yet to find is a plug adapter for USA to SA plugs. All of our local stores sell what they are calling an "international set" of plug adapters...but for Africa they have 2 prong rather than 3 prong....(I have checked radioshack, walmart, etc.)
I could have sworn that I read or someone told me that it would be 3 prong? Does anyone know? Where can I order the correct one (quick)? Thanks |
To be more specific...
I am looking at magellans.com Trying to decide between Plug Adaptor F and Plug Adaptor H. Which would be correct, we are traveling to Krueger and Capetown. http://www.magellans.com/store/Phone...;page_number=1 |
I was in South Africa last year I used what "TARGET" stores call "type A" and "type B" converter plugs (the whole set cost about $10.00. You might want to checkl out this web site for more updated information.
Have a great trip, http://www.travelproducts.com/electricity_guide.htm |
Sorry, maybe I wasn't totally clear: I needed BOTH plugs in some cases - they can piggy-back on each other.

Here's what you need - I have several of these power strips for when I lead photo safaris (recharging with serious photographers means LOTS of plug points needed for laptops and cameras):
Single adapter: http://www.europlugs.com/catalog.Roc...ry_4451453.htm Multiple plug power strip: http://www.europlugs.com/catalog.Roc...ucts-WE-4A.htm The adapters are universal and take just about any plug. They use removable cords. The RSA cord is here: http://www.europlugs.com/catalog.Roc...10_4591414.htm Regards, James |
Not to worry- get it at Johannesburg airport!! They are readily available there- and you can be sure it is the correct one! This is what I did- and it was cheaper also (I already bought the converter set- none of them worked at all!! Suzic

mgtr,
I'm pretty sure the one I ordered from Magellans was Type H. I remember having the same problem (as well as others), and there is a long and detailed previous post somewhere (try plug adaptors in the search) that dates back to about March or June of 2005. But I just looked at the picture in Magallens and my adaptor (and yes it did work correctly)and looks exactly like Type H (although all one color). Hope that helps. |
i bought the wrong plug for our trip last year, but everywhere we stayed they let me borrow an adaptor so it wasn't a problem at all.
