south africa over Christmas
 

Hi,

My daughter and fiance are considering a 3 week trip to South Africa and Mauritius over the winter holiday next December. I am wondering what the weather and game viewing would be like at that time of year. Also wonder about the wether in Cape Town. Are some game parks better than others at that time of year?

I'd say game viewing would probably be in the fair range at that time. It can be rainy up in the Kruger region, one of Africa's best safari destinations, at that time of year and, because it's summer there, it may be very hot. I was there over Christmas and temps hit 107 F one day---that was one slow day for viewing.

We did a trip to South Africa and Mauritius over Christmas a couple of years ago. We had absolutely fantastic game viewing, but as always, there is an element of luck in how much game one sees. Weather in Cape Town was great, but I found Mauritius very humid! If you click on my name you can find our trip report.
