South Africa Itineray Suggestions

We will be traveling to South Africa in March 2013 for 2 weeks. The first part of our trip will be in Cape Town for approximately 5 days where we plan on doing various day trips. The last part or our trip will be a Safari in Kruger Park and then ending in Johanesburg before flying home. Can anyone suggest a good area to go to for a few days during the middle of our trip? We do not want to move from place to place too often. We would like to stay in an area that is centrally located to good shopping, wine tours, scenic parks, fishing etc. We will not have a vehicle and will most likely be looking to do day tours. We do not want to drive while in South Africa but are looking into the possibilty of having a car and driver. Can anyone recommend an agency that could provide transportation? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend doing the Garden Route. There are a number of operators who do this on a private basis.

I would do the garden route, and more specifically; De Hoop Nature Reserve and Knysna.

Use a local (Cape Town vased) TA with a good international reputation like Sun Safaris, and save yourself some money ;-)

Thanks for the great info. The information and opportunities are so overwhelming it's hard to narrow down the options.

Have already booked a day trip along the coast to Cape Point so if you had to pick another day trip which would you choose?

Franschoek or Stellenbosch?

KathBC, you can see most of the Winelands in one long daytrip from Cape Town. I wouldn't concentrate on either town, but the entire region. I think Stellenbosch has more to "see" for a tourist, though.

Thanks Shay. I'm not really into wine but the Winelands look amazing!

Who did you arrange your day trip with?
