Some Water Questions...

I know that in order to travel through Egypt YOU MUST have water. I am going on a trip for eight days through Egypt in the middle of August. And my question is...how do I transport water if I bring my own? Can I buy bottled water in Egypt and is this water OK to drink? Any thoughts or suggestions WELCOME! thank you

Susan: I have not been to Egypt yet but to Morroco,Tunisia, Turkey and a lot of Asian countries.
Don't bring your own water. You can buy bottled water everywhere and it IS ok. It's a big business for them to sell cold bottled water. You will find the boys at every sight. They buy it cheaply in town and sell it to tourists by doubling or trippling the price!
Just make sure the original seal is on it. If you are on a guided tour, your guide will take care that you won't miss anything. They all do that in order to get a good tip at the end of the trip and it is part of their job to look after the guests.
Avoid ice in your drinks and don't forget: cook it, peel it or forget it.
= Avoid salads, rarely cooked meat, fruit salads. Start slowly with the food you are not used to. Eat bread and rice. And drink a lot, it's very important.
Enjoy it.

Were in Egypt in April. Water is for sale everywhere, and often it is cold. As above, check the seal. Drink lots of water, especially in August. We found water to be reasonably priced, so cost was not an issue. Be careful of drinks likely to be reconstituted or prepared with water (orange juice, lemonade). No one in our family got sick and we were very careful - maybe we missed some food experiences, but we didn't miss any sights.

Susan, we were in Egypt last June on escorted tour. For sure, drink only bottled water having the unbroken seal. It is available everywhere. Our tour bus always had plenty of chilled bottles at a very reasonable price. Same for the Nile River cruise boat. And we bought it at several place from venders. Certainly agree with previous comments about not eating certain items depending on preparation. And, you might want to use only bottled water when brushing teeth and do not get shower water in mouth while bathing. Some suggested using toweletts before eating. Yes, members of our group came down with sickness in various forms of discomfort. Who knows what caused it-- ill-agreeing beverage/food, heat, stress of being in new place, etc. But, I would do it again.
have a great trip.
Dick
