I'm really sorry I used this one...force of habit after 24 years.
ak is part of my ex-husband's last name and nard is part of mine. Years ago, good friends combined our two last names and we became the Aknards. It was cute while I was married...
My last name is Leonard and I'm particularly fond of the "Leo" part. I've always had an affinity for lions.

Jess215,
Thanks for starting this fun thread!
Caniche is French for "poodle" (my dog Benny, who I miss soooo much whenever I travel), and I live in NYC. I first choose it as my "ebay" name, and now it's just easy to remember.

I stay in Paris twice a year, so I know and love the caniche. My dog is a "cousin" - a Portuguese Water Dog - and so many people think he is a poodle, that I sometimes say he is....I do miss him when I travel, and also my 2 cats, Django and Pascal.

Ve is a short version of my real name, Vera, which was taken already. It was Ve Ve when I was a little kid, live in the southern part of New Mexico and the weather's better than S. Calif. where I moved from.

Paris twice a year, how nice! And you've been to Africa recently also (I've been lurking!).
Paris has always been my favorite place to visit, but I"m leaving on Feb. 23rd for my first visit to Tanzania, and from everything I've been reading on these forums, I'm about to find a new favorite!
I love Portugese Water dogs, they are such clowns. My caniche is too serious. He's a worrywart, always watching for a suitcase to be brought out, then he tries to hide in it while I'm packing, hoping I won't notice.
So, Jess215, what does your screen name mean?

JS - my first two initials - morphed into Jess; I found it to be a good unisex name when I was seeking a two-week rental in NYC on Craiglist a few years ago. 215 is just part of an address. Not very exciting.
I can't believe I actually made it to Africa and would love to go back - what is your itinerary in Tanzania, and do you have a favorite (non-doggy) animal?

When I picked out a screen name several years ago, I had not had to do this, except for my ISP, so I have gotten into a rut and use the same one, which stands for Linda Lou and my last name. Poor DH, but he wanted me to do all of the set up??? What can I say??
My DH was born and raised in Alabama. As you may or may not know females in the south almost always have 3 names; 1st, middle and last. If you do not know this name "thing", rent "Steel Magnolias".
I, however was born and semi raised in Gary, Indiana where you have a 1st & last name, also all over the USA and Mexico. I have learned to answer to what ever. ;-) Normally it has been just Linda, except when my Mom was very unhappy with me.
Can any one identify with this??
In 2001, we moved to the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, in Daphne, AL. Great place except when huricanes are coming through and trust me they "suck".
That not with standing, it was wonderful today sitting out on our screened-in porch today in slacks and a short sleeved shirt talking to a friend of mine in Pittsburg and they had had snow. ;-(
You all have been so kind to respond to all of my questions, before I figured out how to "search" for answers, I give you my "THANKS". I had never particapated in something like this, i.e. forum, before.
Guess that old adage is correct, "the dog is never too old".
Don't think that you are going to get out of more questions as I have 117 more days until DH & I get on the big bird.

The ovenbird, a warbler found in North America during migration, is one of my favorite birds. Being a birder, birds have taken me all over the world but there's something else about Africa that keeps drawing me back.

BTW, Divewop, "wop" is not "slang" for an Italian. It's an ethnic slur, intended to insult, much like other offensive terms for various ethnic and racial groups. Sorry you chose to use it in your SN.
The fact that you are "picking on your own heritage", as you say, does not make it acceptable. There are many who share your heritage but do not share your tolerance for ethnic insults or self-denigration.
Apologies for the lecture, Fodorites, but I thought it needed to be said.

Give me a break! Now we have to be politically correct with our screen names too?! What's that about?!
I guess my other name "Guineagirl", wouldn't go over too well with you either!
And maybe my safaritalk name of "gorilla girl" is way out of line too. Gosh, maybe I'm lashing out at the gorillas and their ethnicity!
Not that you deserve an explanation but, for the record, I chose "divewop" because some of my dive buddies called me that on a dive trip many years ago, not intending to insult me or my ethnicity. Just joking around amongst friends.
It just kind of stuck, and wasn't a big deal to anyone involved, including me.
The fact that you're making a big deal about it is beyond ridiculous.
Or maybe you've just got way too much time on your hands.
If it makes you feel better to insult me or try to humiliate me because of my screen name, then so be it.
I think you just need to get over yourself. If you'd like to continue this discussion, you can email me personally and leave the rest of the fodorites out of it. My email address is [email protected] as noted above.
Can we move past this now?!
P.S. Apologies for the rebuttal, fodorites, but I think this needed to be said too!
