Single woman Morocco Private tour
Hi! I’m concerned given recent events bc I’m a single woman American:( planning to go to Morocco next week. I’m not flying in or near Middle East but I know tensions are high. Then to top it off the travel company who is well known and reputable changed my tour from group to private bc no one else signed up! I do not want to be alone with a guide and bus driver in the desert right now. I think I could have a good case to get my money back and I do have travel insurance. Advice?

I certainly won't presume to tell you what to do -- it's obviously a call that only you can make. (And I'm glad it's not a decision I'm facing!)
If you want to cancel, consult the fine print of your travel insurance coverage. I suspect that some policies would cover you if you cancel; I doubt that all companies would do so. FWIW, the U.S. State Department is listing Morocco as a Level 2 -- "exercise increased caution ... due to terrorism." It is not currently at Level 3, "Reconsider Travel." I'm not sure how I would weigh that input. I might check to see what the British, Australian, and Canadian governments are now saying. If it matters ... when I traveled in Morocco in late 2023, as a solo American woman, I'm not sure how many people outside my lodging would have known that I was from the U.S. (Hotels and riads would have known because they consulted my passport.) Many people would not have been able to discriminate my American accent from, say, British or Canadian or Australian. Again, I'm not trying to say how you should view it ... just trying to provide input. If you decide to go, but don't want to be in the desert with a guide and driver right now, you could, perhaps, cancel that part of your trip and go solo and independent -- easy enough in "normal" times. Best wishes with your decision! |
I can’t decide for you but if this were my trip I would be over the moon!! A private tour for the price of a group tour! Full attention of driver and guide!!! Alone under the stars but with security!!
I’ve not checked but I am in Spain right now (single American female). which I think is listed as Level Two which pretty much means no problem. I would take your place in a minute if you decide to bail!! Would you mind posting the link for the tour???? |
As above, I'd view this as an opportunity, not a problem. American woman traveling alone, I've made a number of trips to Morocco, including immediately after 9-11. Different, I know, but few other visitors. In a country that depends heavily on tourism i was stopped on the street and thanked for being there. Moroccans are kind & generous people & if you decide to carry on I'm quite sure you won't be sorry.
