Shuttle from Johannesburg to Rustenburg during World Cup

Good day all.

I'm flying into Jo'burg for the World Cup, and then immediately departing to my accommodations near Kommiesdrift, just outside of Rustenburg.

Can someone point me in the direction of legitimate (and ideally - cheap) shuttle services? My lodge is charging my girlfriend and me R1500 each way, so R6000, which is absolutely outrageous.

Cheers

R6000 ($800)
Rent/hire car yourself?
Avis is about $50 per day out of JNB.

I support Tom's advise! Self drive is pretty easy. Get good insurance and maybe a GPS. Being two of you makes it easy: One drives and the other has got the map.
Make yourself familiar with maps and directions.

Some precoutions as you would have in any country/unfamiliar environment:
Don't drive after dark, leave your car never with valuable inside, keep a car's lengths distant to the car in front of you at traffic lights, don't hire a BMW or big Mercedes. You are driving on the left but that's pretty easy to adapt to - I am German (used to drive on the right) and never had any prob to adjust to driving on the "wrong side" of the road!
We always hire in SA and never had a problem.

Happy Planning - for which team will you be crossing your fingers ;-)

SV ((@)) - of course the Germans are going to be lucky again :o) A math prof from the UK predicted they make it to the TOP and become the champions :-)

Thanks guys. I've heard horrible stories about driving in Jo'burg. From the airport to Rustenburg, it looks like it'd be all highway driving (and therefore much safer)?

I'm cheering for England. Just managed to secure tickets to all their group stage matches, so I'm incredibly excited!

I've wondered about this same thing, as some of my relatives are going to be staying in Rustenburg for the game in Pretoria. While driving would be a breeze, I wonder about parking. Won't that be somewhat of a hassle, or is there going to be adequate parking at the stadium?

@ KingPete - I have exactly the same tickets as you, for all 3 group games (i also have the first knockout round too).. I fly in on the 11th and am staying in Rustenburg for 3 nights. I too have no idea how to get from Joburg to Rustenburg. Having surfed google for a number of hours i'm still none the wiser!

I think driving might be the best option. Let me know how your search goes and i'll do the same.

Hire a car as that will give you transport when you are not at the games, most firms likely to be charging a premium during that time...... The trip from the airport to Rustenburg should not be more than 1.5 hours, barring any traffic hassles/road closures. A satnav would help, however, at the time of the World Cup there will be a number of road closures so bear that in mind when the satnav is telling you to go down a road that is quite clearly closed There will be plenty of Park & Ride options for matches.

As an African - enjoy the games!! Whoever wins - hope the games are all played in the spirit they should be (no handballs!!) Bring earplugs for the vuvuzelas and a jacket for the night games - it is winter in Africa after all ....

@Russ1984

Ended up renting a car. It appeared to be the most flexible and cheapest option. Getting lost and stranded will be part of the World Cup experience, haha.

Thanks all for the advice (jackets, earplugs, etc)
