These are the instructions sent by our TO:

"Make your way to the Southern Sun Airport Hotel by means of a complimentary hotel shuttle available at the shuttle
terminus. The directions are as follows:
From International Arrivals Terminal, exit building and turn left. Walk along driveway until the pedestrian crossing and
turn right across the driveway into opposite building with covered parking above. Do not take the escalators but walk
past them until you get to the Luxliner Bus bookings cubicle. Turn right at Luxliner and exit building onto passageway
next to the Intercontinental Hotel. Turn right again and follow passageway to the shuttle terminus behind the
Intercontinental Hotel. Wait for the minibus at the terminus. The walk to the shuttle loading area will take 5 minutes."

We'll be there on Aug.1

As I recall it is over by the domestic terminal. We walked outside by the Intercontinental and then back into the airport on the other side. There is an area where all of the shuttle are. Sorry I can't be more specific. It was kinda confusing. We used it twice, but I still think I might have to sniff it out. Just ask someone where the shuttles are!

The Southern Sun Hotel offers a free shuttle service from the airport. Or at least they did when I was there last year. The shuttle leaves the Airport every 15 minutes. It leaves from the Bus/Coach Terminus which is behind the InterContinental Hotel. Exiting the International Arrival Building, turn left, cross the roadway at the pedestrian crossing, and then just follow the signs. It's about a 3-5 minute walk.

agree with julia1, we used bus last Sep 2007. FWIW, I was planning on going back to So Sun this Sep but they have doubled their rates. Likely staying at Metcourt Laurel instead.

When I was there a year ago the construction meant you had to walk farther and what seemed like across the street. You might want to ask about it when you get there.

Agree, leave the international terminal( go left), head towards the domestic terminal, cross the street when you see the Intercontinental. Before getting to the IC driveway keep left and you'll be a few steps from the shuttle terminal.

Checked last years bill to this years and it's gone up 1/3. This year a double is R1511 or $198.00 at today's exchange rate. Last years was R998 or $130.00. Oh well, it is convenient.

Dennis - I see (internet) So. Sun rate for Sep 2, 2008 of R1995, $261. If you are finding your rate of 1511, can you tell me where? I might be interested in staying there. Maybe we are looking at different dates? Thanks.

In my experience the rates can vary significantly from one day to the next. We stayed there on two nights a week apart last year, and the second stay cost 2/3 of the first.

Tom~ I booked this April 1st-maybe their rates went up since then but I do have confirmed pricing. Booked on their website. Mine is about 10 days after yours.

I just put in the date that I'll be staying (July 22/08) into their reservation request form and got a price of 1330 R. That was with breakfast, btw.

Anyway, FWIW, I've decided to stay at the Metcourt Laurel. Mainly because of cost and because I'm arriving a day early, staying two nights there. So the Emperor's Palace complex might be a way to relax away the extra day. I used Orbitz to book the Metcourt and their cost is around $30 less per night than the Metcourt web site. Orbitz cost is $124 per night, taxes and levys included. However, Orbitz has rather high $$$ penalties for cancellations or changes.

We'll be arriving late July 22 and staying at the OR Southern Sun ourselves can anyone tell me what the food situation is at the hotel and within walking distance?

Appreciate.

matnikstym Jul 17th, 2008 08:18 AM

cybor~nothing in walking distance. There's a nice restaurant in the hotel or you can shuttle back to the airport and eat at the IC or one of the airport shops. I liked Spur's Steakhouse.
