Shumba and Ruckomechi?

My husband and I leave in 4 weeks (counting the days!) for 7 nights at Shumba Camp in the Kafue NP in Zambia, and 6 nights at Ruckomechi Camp in Mana Pools, Zimbabwe. This is our 4th safari so we know all the usual things to pack and plan for. But I was just checking to see if anyone had any other special/unusual insights to these camps. We have been to Zambia before (SL and LZ and Vic Falls) but not to Zim. Flying into Shumba from Lusaka, and taking the Wilderness Safaris road transfer from Lusaka to Ruckomechi, through Chirundu border crossing then up river.

Any guides you would recommend? We love all creatures great and small, furry, scaly or feathered.
Any tents that are better/worse? Location, view, hippo highway, elephant sleeping spot?
How are the tse tse flies at Shumba?
Any particular areas we should ask to explore (we have a private vehicle booked for a few days at each camp)?
Anything to watch out for at the border crossing between Zam and Zim?
1 overnight at Lusaka Intercontinental on the way home. Any thoughts? How are the shops?
Anything unique at all to report on anything?

I can't wait!! Would love to hear interesting and insightful comments.

Thanks.

I stayed at Ruckomechi 2 years ago and will be heading back in October. I had a superb guide named Kevin and am hoping he is still there. I love Zimbabwe! Two years ago I did a Botswana/Zim combo safari but, this time, it's all Zim.
Your trip sounds interesting...enjoy.

We were at Shumba 2 years ago. Loved the camp. One day we hired the helicopter for a day trip to a sister property (can't remember the name, sorry) and it was a highlight. The pilot took us low to see animals along the way and a long, low, fast trip along the river. Very exciting! At the lodge they took us for a picnic in the river. Very fun day. Tsetse flies in the forest but not bad elsewhere.
