Shots for Egypt visit

What, if any, shots did you get prior to arriving in Egypt? We will be coming from the US with no intermediate stops. Are both Hepatitis A & B necessary? What about Malaria?
I've looked at both the CDC's website and the US Dept. of State's travel website and there is a wealth of information on both sites. I'm most interested in what the average person thinks is necessary in the way of shots. My physician recommended both Hep. A&B and didn't seem at all concerned about Malaria. Thanks for you input!

No problem with Malaria if you are just going to the regular tourist destinations. I will not comment as a doctor, but for me Hep A&B and a current tetanus shot would be critical.

You might want to check with an actual travel clinic (rather than just your own doc) to see what they advise.

oh- and there isn't a shot for Malaria. In Malaria areas you generally take some sort of antibiotic, often for a period just before, during, and sometimes after your visit (depending on what exactly you are taking).

Malaria meds aren't required for the traditional tourist areas.

For travel anywhere it's a good idea to be current to, at minimum, Tetanus, Hep-A* and a Polio booster. The first two are good for 10/yrs; the latter for the rest of your life.

*There is a combo A&B that some docs recommend; otherwise A only is fine.

Discuss all with your personal physician as it relates to your own health history.

Enjoy your holiday.

I was told make sure tetanus was up to date, and get the hep A. Beyond that, just make sure your routine vaccines are up to date which is a good idea, traveling or not.
