Short layover in Frankfurt--problem?

I am in the process of booking a flight from Chicago to Cairo with a 55 minute layover in Frankfurt. Is anyone familiar with the Frankfurt airport and how long it usually takes to clear through customs? I'm worried that there will be no way to catch our connecting flight.

Thanks!

You don't mention on which carrier you're flying from ORD/FRA and from FRA/CAI. If the same carrier there should be no problem, if different carriers you should find out which terminal your inbound flight arrives at FRA and from where your outbound flight departs for CAI.

If different terminals - it's been some years since I've been thru FRA so not familiar with type of transport available between terminals, if not by foot. Maybe another poster may know.

As to Customs, you won't have to - you're a "transit passenger" and should be in a secure area from arrival to departure. Besides you're not staying in Frankfurt so no Immigration or Customs. Only when you arrive in Cairo will you have to deal with Immigration and Customs.

Hi:

In 2003 we had a similar 50-55 min gap between a Lufthansa flight from Toronto to Frankfurt then another Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Budapest. I was concerned, having never been to the Frankfurt airport before.

For the Lufthansa flights the international arrivals/departures gates all appeared to be in the same general area & we didn't have to go through customs or do anything else but wait (even had time to buy a bottle of water & an English newspaper).

But if your using different carriers for these segments it could be trickier.
