Short Jordan tour - Petra - walking difficulty

Thinking of going to Petra for a short visit - I am wondering if someone can tell me about how challenging the walking is as I have limited mobility -- Also, any recommendations for guides?

You can take a horse and buggy from the entrance to the Treasury building.

I'm sitting here racking my brains to remember if riding is possible beyond that point. I hope someone else can help. Good luck.

I'm pretty sure the only guides you can bring in are the ones for hire at the visitor's center. We had two different ones, one good and the other great.

As for walking, it is pretty much level for the main areas, with optional hikes up the cliffs. We loved seeing as much as we did, but it occurred to me that someone who had to stay on the main drag would still have a great visit. There is some deeper sand and a bit of cobblestone in parts, but it's mostly packed sand. We did all our own walking, but it appeared they allow different transportation methods in different areas (like the length of the siq you can rent a buggy, before that part you can rent a horse, after the siq you can rent a camel or donkey).

We did Petra in one day. The main road is level and yes there are donkeys or horses you can ride if you get too tired or hot.

People mention donkeys and horses, and a horse and buggy, huh? What about a camel? I had the most delightful camel ride ever in Petra-I could have gone all day on my camel! Take a camel, you can go for hours inside Petra, it was very comfortable! (She says, preparing for her two day camel safari in Rajasthan in a few weeks...)
